Blog post 4 Ch.6

A.Throughout a previous chapter it stated how many rumors wandered around New York about Gatsby. In chapter 6 a reporter goes to Gatsby's mansion trying interview him to see which rumors are really true. In this chapter we lean about the early life of Gatsby and Nick's relation to the stop. The reporter found out that Gatsby's real name was James Gatz and was born in North Dakota, on a farm. He attended college at St. Olaf’s in Minnesota, he dropped out after two weeks, loathing the humiliating janitorial work by means of which he paid his tuition.  Gatsby got his name Jay Gatsby from a 50 year old man named Dan Cody who owned a yacht. Dan made Gatsby a personal assistant. Being able to traveling with Cody to the Barbary Coast and the West Indies, Gatsby was able fall in love with wealth and luxury. Considering that Cody was a heavy drinker, and one of Gatsby’s jobs was to look after him when he was under the influence A woman came on board one night in Boston and a week later Cody was died. When he died he left Gatsby a lot of money but he couldn't get it all because of Cody's mistress. This situation made Gatsby want to become a very wealthy and successful man.

B. The details about Gatsby and his early life differs from the rumors that had been said about him. The rumors made him look like a mysterious and devious man who may have killed someone. When he really was just a normal person who worked really hard to get to where he is today.

C. Gatsby changed his name Jay Gatz because he didn't want to remember his past. He changed it because he wanted to become a new person. He wanted to be known as a wealthy and respected man and he wanted a name that could represent that. Gatz was a poor man and wasn't popular and Gatsby is wealthy, who is widely known.

D. Tom doesn't like Gatsby at all. He acts like he has something against him. Tom thinks that the fact that Gatsby earned his wealth is something to look down upon. He is also jealous of the relationship Gatsby has with Daisy, all because he wants her to himself.
